How Much Does Wedding Catering Cost in Mumbai?

A realistic breakdown of what actually drives your per-plate cost — so you can budget accurately before you start calling caterers.

Ask five Mumbai caterers "what's your rate per plate?" and you'll get five different answers — not because anyone's being evasive, but because wedding catering pricing genuinely depends on a handful of variables that change the number a lot. Here's what actually moves the price, in the order it usually matters.

1. Number of live counters and courses

A simple buffet with a handful of dishes costs meaningfully less than a spread with 6-8 live counters (chaat, dosa, pasta, dessert stations and so on). Live counters need more chefs on-site, more equipment, and more prep — that's staffing cost, not just ingredient cost.

2. Cuisine mix

Pure vegetarian Indian menus tend to sit at the more affordable end. Adding multi-cuisine sections — Chinese, Italian, Continental — or premium ingredients (seafood, specific cuts of meat, imported items) pushes the per-plate cost up function by function.

3. Service style: buffet vs plated

Plated, served courses generally cost more per guest than a buffet, because they need more service staff per table and tighter timing coordination.

4. Guest count

Counter-intuitively, very large weddings sometimes get a better per-plate rate than very small ones, because fixed costs — staff, equipment, transport — spread across more plates. Mid-to-large receptions are where most Mumbai caterers, including us, have the most pricing flexibility.

5. Venue and logistics

A venue with an on-site kitchen is cheaper to cater than one requiring a full mobile setup. Distance from your caterer's base also matters for smaller functions — this is part of why we highlight Western Suburb bookings (Goregaon, Malad, Andheri, Bandra) as easy to arrange, though we cater across Mumbai.

A rough way to think about your budget

Rather than anchoring to a single "market rate," it's more useful to decide which of the five factors above matter most to you — say, multi-cuisine variety over live counter count — and tell your caterer that upfront. A good caterer will build a menu around your actual needs rather than a generic package.
